Washington Canoe Club

Marathon Canoe

Marathon canoeists at the WCC regularly compete on the national level in such races as the General Clinton Canoe Regatta and the Adirondack Classic. It is not uncommon to have a group of paddlers heading off to international races in warmer climates during the winter season in DC. Several members own C-1 and C-2s and compete in both disciplines. To train for these events, members organize early morning training sessions on the Potomac, long paddles on the C&O Canal, as well as trips to the many rivers in the area. Members also organize marathon canoe workshops at WCC in order to learn new and hone existing skills.

There is quite a bit of cross over between marathon, outrigger, and sprint paddling at the WCC. Having all of this disciplines at the club makes each group stronger and provides members with a diversity of experience that is one of the hallmarks of the club.
